During a business meeting, Marketing Manager, Sarah Bold presents her quarterly report to the team. She states, "Our sales have decreased by 10%, but our customer satisfaction ratings have increased by 15%." One of her colleagues, from the New Businesses branch, Mark Spence, responds, "Well, we can't have everything, can we?" As you know, effective communication in English requires some extralinguistic or pragmatic competencies, as the language in use does not correspond solely to summing up the meanings of the words. These competencies are what have been called pragmatics and discourse. In the text you’ve just finished reading, Sarah's statement about sales and customer satisfaction involves a type of speech act. If this act were addressed to you, which of the following statements would you consider as expressing the same speech act? I. I didn’t get an A+ in Math this semester, but Literature and Reading have brought major results lately: A++ twice. II. Even if I did my best, it wasn’t this time that my resume was selected. III. I guess I’m late; would you tell me what time it is? IV. You’d better get back to your room and finish your homework if you don’t want to end up with a C- again. V. Awesome! You’ve just got 100 on your poetry analysis. Congratulations! É correto o que se afirma em:atos-de-faladiscursoingles
